i am going to have to show my fishing vest at some point. it is so embarrassing and nerdy. i put everything in my pockets instead of carrying my bag – it distributes the weight so nicely! ;^)

I have to say that I'm a dunce when it comes to field bags. I look at other's bags and feel like I am missing something. However, after years of packing all kinds of things, then either carrying my bag and never opening it, or deciding to leave it behind in the van, I've concluded that "all I need is my eyes, and ears, and mind". It doesn't make for a good photo! Part of me feels a little broken here. It must be a personality thing I guess - Artist Girl does pack a bag and she actually opens it and uses it. And my mom and sister always carried bags and put stuff in and out. So, I could take a photo of my bag and what I put in it, but it would be a sham because I prefer to only take my mind, or to stuff my pockets. I guess what I need is one of those vests with tons of pockets!

this bling is just too much. I'm going to put together a field bag, if only for the joy of collecting these luscious ingredients. (I took architectural drawing in college just because the supply list was so tantalizing -- big mistake as it turned out.) I'd love the specs on your tiny lidded watercolor set, Lori. and boy, do I ever love double-sided tape! -- how have you used it in the field? xo Nancy in NC

nancy, oh i know just what you mean - the architectural aisle at the campus bookstore was the best!
my watercolor set is a travel one by pebeo. there are quite a few different smaller sets available.
we usually press things in the field by sticking them into our field guide - it's heavy and thick enough to press things nicely - then we can stick them into our journals later. sometimes we use the tape to stick in loose pages we've drawn or painted on, or bits of maps or other ephemera we've picked up somewhere we're visiting. we use it for sticking in photos, too.
dawn, we really need to get ourselves those fingerless gloves. ;^)
